World Cup Fever

WORLD CUP FEVER!!!
Cricket lovers from the world at large will be converging on the Caribbean and Guyana to watch over ten cricketing nations compete for supremacy in "one day" competitions. The West Indies will have to face the likes of formidable competitors like Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand, India and England, to name just a number of the teams. The hosting nations have invested millions of dollars all in the hope of showcasing their countries whilst the games are played and broadcasted.
In all this Digicel will be playing an important role in promoting these games. Unlike in the past where arch rival Cable and Wireless was at the helm for West Indies cricket. Digicel recently set up camps in several caribbean countries as well as in Guyana.
Star cricketer Brian C Lara will be leading the West Indies to vie for the coveted title as World Champions. Laura game has deteriorated significantly over the past few years and his leadership qualities has been severely criticised for seriously lacking in many areas. Rumors has it however, that Laura eye sight is poor. Given this one is left to wonder why play Lara then?
Lara's deputy Ramaresh Sarwan is extremely susceptable to 'real fast' bowling. In the last world cup in South Africa, Sarwan was hit by lightening quick delivery behind the head, where he passed out. And had to be rushed off to hospital. recently in Guyana in the Carib Bear competition he was struck by a another quickie from Fidel Edwards and suffered a fractured finger.
Not to focus on the weaknesses only for West Indies it has been claimed that West Indies has one of the best batting line up on paper. This line up include, Christ Gale, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Marlon Samuels, Dwane Bravo, Brian Lara, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Darren Ganga. Yet this team has only on a few occassions risen to the occassion, and prove they can beat any team on a given day.
I will write about Guyana in my next blog.
